There's this cat, Carl Tassi... so West Coast cool, a little bit of Mose Allison with Chet Baker and Annie Ross mixed in. - Steve Lopez, Los Angeles Times
- Jazz vocalist Carl Tassi began his musical career at age eleven, in San Jose, California. During his high-school years he purchased a recording by Coleman Hawkins, from a corner grocery store, which inspired his interest in jazz; he was never the same. After graduating from San Francisco State University with a degree in music, he found himself immersed in a dynamic artist/music environment, at the height of the historic San Francisco rock scene. He performed throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, leading his own jazz group called "The Free Thing", and freelanced with various bands, live and in the studio. He toured with David LaFlamme (It's A Beautiful Day), recorded for Amherst Records, even recorded tracks with fellow session musician, Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead). Carl moved to Los Angeles to continue pursuing his passion for music. After performing throughout Southern California in many situations, he started his own band; this time leading under his own name. His most recent recording is "Waiting For The Bread" (Royola Records).
